What is your present state of mind? — I’ve been very thoughtful recently, trying to figure out how to broach a fairly sensitive subject in a new body of work. I typically try and keep my imagery light, but I may have to go to a pretty dark place for these pieces. — Your motto. — Just do the work. — Your age. — 33. — Where are you from and where are you now? — I am from Charlotte, but I’m currently residing in Portland, Oregon, trying to make things happen. — How would you describe your work and creative process? — It’s typically figurative, painted in a pointillistic or impressionistic manner. The subject matter is not that heavy-handed, but I do address things that concern my peers and me in a broad yet approachable way. — Where will you go for your next vacation? — I’ve booked a flight to Germany. I’ll be catching a few of the Avett shows there in March and just wandering around taking in new sights. — Open a nearby book and copy the first line you like. — “When the artist is alive in any person… he becomes an inventive, searching, daring, self-expressing creature. He becomes interesting to other people. He disturbs, upsets, enlightens, and he opens ways for better understanding.”
